Elevation Certificate

The linchpin of the National Flood Insurance Program as it pertains to property owners is the Elevation Certificate. To determine the flood hazards of an area, The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) performs a Flood Insurance Study (FIS). The results of the study are provided in an FIS report as well as a Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM). The purpose of the FIS is to assess the flood risk of a large area to a reasonable degree of accuracy. Because FEMA realizes that the FIS report cannot always be accurate on a small scale they have made available an assortment of administrative procedures for property owners to amend the effective report. All of these procedures first require an Elevation Certificate that must be prepared by a Land Surveyor, Engineer, or Architect licensed to practice in the respective state.

Letter of Map Change (LOMC)

The three different LOMCs by which a property owner is able to revise the effective FIS report and FIRM are the Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA), the Letter of Map Revision (LOMR), and the Letter of Map Revision Based of Fill (LOMR-F). Upon review of your elevation certificate someone from our team will determine which Letter is most applicable to your property.
